Naturopathic Medicine FAQ
What can I expect from the consultation?

The initial naturopathic medicine consultation is 45 to 60 minutes in duration, or 60 to 90 minutes for integrative oncology consultations. These visits involve a comprehensive intake to establish health goals and discover the underlying causes to your wellness concerns.

This information is then used to create and implement an individualized treatment plan to reach your state of vibrant wellness.

Is Naturopathic medicine going to benefit me?

Naturopathic medicine works with the body to establish a state of health and balance and therefore can benefit every individual.

If you have questions regarding your specific needs, I can provide insight into your individual case by calling the office number 918-995-7001,

How are naturopathic doctors trained?

Naturopathic doctors obtain a four-year undergraduate degree and then complete a four-year doctoral program in naturopathic medicine. In addition to a standard medical curriculum (anatomy, physiology, pathology, clinical and physical diagnosis, laboratory diagnosis, pharmacology, etc.), naturopathic doctors are required to complete extensive training in clinical nutrition, acupuncture, botanical medicine, hydrotherapy, naturopathic manipulative therapy, and counseling.

They must complete at least two years of hands-on clinical training, pass two sets of national boards examinations, and stay current on continuing education requirements.

Why do I need to see a naturopathic doctor if my symptoms are being managed with prescription medication?

Symptoms are an expression of imbalance in the body. Most medications work to manage symptoms, but do not address the underlying cause of disease.

Naturopathic medicine principles investigate root causes of your symptoms and allow you to incorporate integrative therapies to restore the natural balance of the body rather than just mask the symptoms.

Will insurance cover my visit?

Insurance does not currently cover naturopathic medicine services in Oklahoma. The goal at Vibrant Natural Medicine is to provide the best care possible to improve your health and therefore reduce your overall medical costs. This is achieved through detailed intakes and conversations where I can focus on your individual needs and create the best wellness plan for you.
What Should I Bring for the First Visit?

Please bring your most recent blood work (labs) and any other pertinent reports related to your health concern. Also, please try to complete your new patient online questionnaire 48 hours prior to your scheduled appointment (this will be emailed to you once you’ve scheduled your consultation). Note: It can take 30 minutes to fill out the paperwork, as it is quite thorough.
What is FABNO?

FABNO stands for Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology. The Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians initiated a credentialing process for naturopathic doctors in 2006.

A separate and independent board, the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology (ABNO) was established to oversee the process and work with the Board of Medical Examiners to develop standards for credentialing, including training requirements, application process and board certification exams.

Will acupuncture benefit me?

Acupuncture works with the body to establish a state of health and balance and therefore can benefit every individual.

If you have questions regarding your specific needs, I can provide insight into your individual case by calling the office number 918-995-7001.

What does acupuncture entail?

An acupuncture treatment is the insertion of very fine needles into precise points on the body called acupoints. The combination of points are prescribed based on the pattern of imbalance determined at your visit. The stimulation of these acupoints can alter physiological responses in the body to correct and rebalance the flow of energy to improve symptoms, relieve pain and restore health.
Can I incorporate acupuncture with other treatments I receive?

Absolutely! Acupuncture treatments work synergistically with other treatment modalities. Incorporating acupuncture with your chiropractic care, physical therapy or massage programs often allows for quicker and improved treatment outcomes.
How does acupuncture improve pain?

Benefits of acupuncture occur from a variety of physiologic responses to the acupoint stimulation. Local effects include reduced contraction of muscles and increased blood circulation. There are also systemic effects on the nervous system that lead to a release of anti-inflammatory and pain reducing substances from the brain.

How should I prepare for my cryo Slimming session?

Always drink plenty of water and refrain from eating food for an hour before and after the session.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions needed depends on how much you need to lose and your bodies ability to handle the cold. Typically, you will need anywhere from 8-12 visits to see lasting changes.

How does it work?

True cryostimulation is the rapid cooling of the skin and underlying tissues to 4 degrees Celsius, under pressure, to induce thermal shock. Thermal shock produces a favorable biological response from the body to the cold temperature.
The fat cells destroyed in the process pass naturally through the body’s lymphatic system. Cryo Slimming is a safe, painless, and non-surgical alternative to liposuction. Compared to other “fat freezing” treatments, Cryo Slimming is cheaper, painless, and more effective!

Who should not be treated by Subzero Cryo Body Sculpting?
These procedures are not for everyone. You should not be treated with Cryo body sculpting if you suffer from cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutinin disease, or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria.

Please consult with a physician prior to having cryo sculpting treatments.

How long are cryo treatments?
Treatments can take as little as 3 to 15 minutes and cover one or two treatment areas. We recommend multiple treatments to help achieve the best results.

How soon will I see results with cryo body sculpting?
Some results may be seen as early as 1 to 3 sessions but it will take weeks to months after treatments for the real results. Your lymphatic system starts working right away but also takes time to pass the dead fat cells through your system so full results can sometimes take up to 6 months or more. Be sure to maintain a healthy diet, routine exercise, lower caffeine intake, and drink more water so it helps your body complete its fat elimination process.

How often can I have cryo treatments?
This is a common question and you may hear several answers to it but in general each area should not be treated more than twice per week. However; if you are treating more than one area of your body then more frequent visits are ok since you can alternate the different areas. We can figure a plan for you once we know more about the areas of treatment you want.

Will Cryo Sculpting tighten my sagging skin?

Skin tightening takes time, so a single Cryo session wouldn’t be enough to repair and tighten loose or sagging skin. Many people have experienced weight loss from drugs like Ozempic or Mounjaro etc and now are faced with loose skin. Cryo can definitely help tighten your skin and bring back more blood flow and rejuvenation. Depending on your skin elasticity and progress you may need several sessions, we recommend starting with 8 to 12 treatment plan.

Will I need time to recover after my Cryo treatments?

Cryo treatments are non-invasive and require no down time or recovery. Your skin may still feel a little cold to touch and possibly some redness or light swelling, which should go away within minutes to a couple hours, so going back to your day is not a problem. Our Cryo sessions are normally 30 minutes to 35 minutes or so and that includes spending 10 minutes on the vibration plate afterwards. Your first session may take longer, up to 45 minutes, since there will be a consultation but after that first time it’s usually 30 minutes.

Shockwave
What type of machine do you use for Shockwave treatments?

Storz, is the brand name.

https://www.curamedix.com/orthopedics/patients/faq

What is shockwave therapy?

Shockwave therapy has many acronyms to represent targeted technologies to address chronic and acute pain as well as aesthetics issues and concerns.

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) is evidence-based and is the most advanced and highly effective non-invasive treatment method approved by the FDA. This proprietary technology is based on a unique set of pressure waves that stimulate the metabolism, enhance blood circulation and accelerate the healing process.

What disorders can be treated?

Generally, acute or chronic musculoskeletal pain and/or pain that significantly impairs mobility or quality of life including:

  • Foot and heel pain
  • Achilles pain
  • Tendon and/or tendon insertion pain
  • Neuromas
  • Trigger points

How is treatment performed?

Typically, coupling gel is applied to the treatment area of interest to enhance effectiveness. Then EPAT® pressure waves are released via the applicator and moved over the area of interest in a circular motion.

Is it safe?

Yes. This FDA-cleared technology was developed in Europe and is currently used around the globe. A wealth of medical experience, state-of-the-art engineering and optimal quality have been built into each EPAT® device.

Extensive clinical studies and tests have confirmed its safety and efficacy.

What is the duration of the treatment and how many treatments will I need?

Treatment sessions take approximately 5-10 minutes depending on the disorder to be treated. Generally, at least 3 treatment sessions are necessary at weekly intervals.

What are the possible side effects or complications?

The non-invasive EPAT® treatment has virtually no risks or side effects. In some cases patients may experience some minor discomfort which may continue for a few days. It is normal to have some residual pain after intense exercise or a full day of work.

Why consider non-invasive shockwave?

Shockwave has a proven success rate that is equal to or greater than that of traditional treatment methods (including surgery) and without the risks, complications and lengthy recovery time.

  • Performed in your physician’s office/clinic
  • Does not require anesthesia
  • Requires a minimal amount of time

Patients can:

  • Bear weight (i.e. walk) immediately
  • Return to work/normal activities within 24-48 hours
  • Resume strenuous activities after 4 weeks
